A major part of each year's Scottish International Storytelling Festival is the outreach programme, when storytellers visit schools all over the Lothians. In 2008, over 4,000 children in over 60 schools across Edinburgh and the Lothians enjoyed a storytelling session as part of the Festival outreach programme.
Each year the Festival has a different international theme, and this provides a wonderful opportunity for your pupils to meet a storyteller from another country and to learn more about other cultures through storytelling.
We consult carefully with teachers to ensure that the storytellers and stories chosen are appropriate for specific ages. Some stories are more dark and complex and suitable for older children only. For younger children we take care to arrange sessions full of interactivity, songs and rhymes, and for children with special education needs, we select only storytellers who are experienced with and sensitive to differing levels of ability.
